Just saying that and you know what I’m talking about, unless you were living in a cave at the time that Congress decided to give several companies the Second Biggest chunk of money ever thrown at the economy. (Bush did it first mere months before leaving office, another reason I contend that the Obama administration is just the Bush administration except for the abortions). But in case you weren’t around for the scandal here’s how it went down. AIG went broke and was going to have to shut down. The government gave them a ton of money to keep afloat. In order to get that money AIG had to give big brother a detailed report about what they would be spending the money on.
After getting the money AIG then goes and spends a crap-ton of the money on bonuses to a relatively small number of people that work for AIG, aka the executives. The story breaks on the news. Everyone is outraged. “How could they spend that money on bonuses when it’s coming from the American tax payer!?!” everyone bellows.
Well the how, is because congress told them that it was okay. You see in that detailed report they gave to congress AIG actually had all those bonuses laid out. But no, no one focuses on the fact that the government knew about it and was okay with it. Everyone instead focuses on AIG.
Why am I bringing this up you might ask. Well I saw The Other Guys this weekend and it was a good movie. But at the end of the movie they go over some of the bailout numbers, including the AIG ones. But there was nothing in there that said “Hey, the government approved this crap.” It was just a basic statement that again, made AIG look evil. Now I’m not saying that AIG isn’t evil. I’m saying Congress is a bunch of d-bags. So that’s what I’m getting at, when you go to the polls in a few months, please check to see if your congress person voted for the bailout and if they did, please remember, they were being a d-bag at the time.
